Zaher Jabareen

Zaher Jabareen (زاهر جبارين) was born in the West Bank town of Salfit. He is Hamas‘s deputy leader in the West Bank and was elected to the group’s Politburo in 2021. Jabareen is also a prominent member of Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades (IQB). He led armed attacks against Israeli targets during the 1990s and has been repeatedly detained by Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA). Jabareen was exiled in 2011.

He is currently based in the Burj al-Shemali refugee camp in Lebanon. In December 2021, he was reportedly injured in a shooting by Fatah gunmen.
