Jamila al-Shanti*
Jamila al-Shanti (جميلة الشنطي) was the first woman elected to Hamas‘s Gaza leadership in March 2021. She was born in 1957 in Gaza’s Jabalia Refugee Camp. In 2006, she was elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council. She was killed in an Israeli airstrike in October 2023.
