Presidential Elections (2005)
Presidential elections for the Palestinian Authority were held in January 2005 following the death of Yasser Arafat. These were won by Mahmoud Abbas with 62.5% of the vote.
Mustafa Barghouti, an independent, came second with 19.5%. Taysir Khaled (DFLP) and Bassam al-Salhi (Palestinian People’s Party) also ran as candidates along with several independents.
