Sari Nusseibeh (سري نسيبة) was born in Damascus in 1949. He is a prominent Palestinian intellectual and member of a historical Jerusalemite family. Nusseibeh is a professor of philosophy and the former president of al-Quds University (Jerusalem).
Nusseibeh has played a leading role in successive Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts and co-authored a 2002 peace initiative (known as the ‘People’s Voice Initiative’) with former Israeli Shin Bet director Ami Ayalon.
His niece, Lana Nusseibeh, is the UAE’s permanent representative to the United Nations.
