Qadura Fares

Abdul Qader Faris Hamid (عبد القادر فارس حامد), often referred to as Qadura Fares (قدورة فارس), was born in Silwas (near Ramallah) in 1962. He is a politician and former Palestinian government minister (under Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei).

Fares became a member of Fatah in 1978, and soon joined a local military cell in the West Bank. He was arrested by Israeli forces for the first time in 1981 and a year later was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was released in 1994 when Israel agreed to release scores of Palestinian prisoners after the Oslo Accords. 

Qafura Fares was first elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) in 2006. He ran on the ‘Fatah Movement’ list in the cancelled May 2021 legislative elections

Between 2023-2025 he served as head of the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs that provides financial assistance to Palestinian prisoners and their families.
