Teresa Gouveia has held multiple government positions in Portugal, serving as secretary of state for culture, secretary of state for the environment, minister for the environment, and minister of foreign affairs. She also was a member of parliament for the Social Democratic Party. She has been active in the cultural sphere as a trustee of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, governor of the European Cultural Foundation’s executive committee, president of the Council for Cultural Cooperation at the Council of Europe, and a member of the consultative council at the University of Lisbon.
