Who we are

ECFR (The European Council on Foreign Relations) is the first pan-European think tank conducting policy-relevant research and promoting a strategic debate across Europe on the development of a coherent, effective and values-based European foreign policy. ECFR has offices in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Sofia and Warsaw: www.ecfr.eu.

Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo is one of the largest independent foundations in Europe, based in Turin (Italy), and one of the main private funders of research on European affairs and international relations: http://www.compagniadisanpaolo.it/eng/The-Foundation.

About this opportunity

Together, the European Council on Foreign Relations and the  Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo are recruiting 4 candidates for their pan-European junior fellowship programme.

The goal of the junior fellowship programme is to develop and enhance the skillset of young professionals starting out their careers in international think-tanks and policy-oriented non-governmental organizations. The programme also contributes to create synergies between ECFR and some of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo’s close partners in Turin working on international affairs.

The fellowship programme has a duration of 4 consecutive months. It starts with an 8-week period in one of ECFR’s offices (in London, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Warsaw, Madrid or Sofia) followed by an 8 week-stay in Turin. Fellows are expected to work full-time for the duration of the programme and will receive a monthly stipend.

Please note that the timeline, duration and final location of each fellowship may be subject to change due the ongoing Covid19 outbreak and related restrictions on European and national travel.

Main responsibilities

The pan European junior fellows will benefit from on-the-job training and mentoring by one of ECFR’s experts and, where possible and relevant, travel to other ECFR offices.
Based on their individual skillset, experience and areas of expertise, the fellows will support different teams in implementing ECFR’s organizational priorities. Throughout the 4 month-period, each fellow will be involved in various activities including advocacy, network-building, research, strategic communications and events management.

After completion of the first 8 weeks at ECFR, fellows will spend the following 8-week period in Turin based at one of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo’s partners. Past fellows have been assigned research tasks at institutions such as ITHACA – Information Technologies for Humanitarian Assistance, Cooperation and Action, the Fondazione Centro Studi sul Federalismo and the Centro Studi Post Conflict Operations. During their time in Turin, fellows will continue working under the supervision of an ECFR expert while, at the same time, contribute to the activities of the hosting institution.
