Biography

Maite Iriarte Arrieta is the Africa programme assistant at the European Council on Foreign Relations, based in the Berlin office.

Before joining ECFR, she was a trainee in the external relations unit at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels. She was also an intern in the climate change programme at the Africa Policy Research Institute and in the Middle East and North Africa programme at ECFR.

During Iriarte’s studies in international relations and geopolitics as well as her prior roles, she has worked on EU policies towards African and Middle Eastern countries, the impacts of climate change in Africa, and the role of civil society in governance. Her research interests include the geopolitics of the African continent, climate action, and Africa-Europe relations.
