José Juan Timermans is the Madrid office assistant at the European Council on Foreign Relations. Prior to joining ECFR, he worked as an intern at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Ibero-America and the Caribbean.
Timermans holds a BA in law and international relations from the Loyola University of Seville and has been on academic exchanges in Rio de Janeiro and Bologna. An active youth advocate, in 2022 he was elected co-president of the Mediterranean Youth Council (MYC). Moreover, he is currently a member of the European Youth Card Association (EYCA) Youth Panel, and he is president of the Young European Federalists, Andalusia, and the Consejo de la Juventud de Andalucía. José Juan has also been advisor to the Charter on Youth and Democracy of the European Union.
