The event launched the new ECFR brief The Periphery of the Periphery: the Western Balkans and the Euro Crisis by Dimitar Bechev. The panel took stock of the challenges and prospects to EU enlargement a day after the European Commission published its regular monitoring reports. Has the eurozone crisis decreased EU’s appetite for further enlargement and swept away the candidates’ reform drive? How real are the risks for the European integration of the Western Balkan countries?
