The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is delighted to host a roundtable discussion with Mark Lowcock, the United Nation’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator and head of United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The discussion will examine the current situation in the Sahel as violence continues to spiral, the urgent humanitarian situation, and means through which Europeans actors can help deal with the interplay between political, security, development and humanitarian challenges.
With the Sahel identified as a “strategic priority” for the EU and its member states, this discussion aims to advance European policy options and enhanced cooperation with the UN towards stabilising the region.
The discussion coincides with the launch of ECFR’s new Sahel mapping project, which assesses the make-up of armed actors across the region.
The discussion will take place on June 12 at the Sofitel Hotel Europe, Place Jourdan, from 18.00 – 19.15.
