Mark Leonard, Director, ECFR
A strong transatlantic partnership remains essential for Europe in terms of security and defence as well as in the areas of economic relations, trade and commerce. The Lithuanian Presidency of the European Council seeks to promote a prosperous Europe and a vibrant transatlantic relationship. The TTIP will be an important part of this vision.
The discussion will focus on the following questions: Can the EU and US restore the cooperative spirit that allowed them to successfully reshape the European continent 20 years ago? Does the US still maintain a strategic interest in Europe and its immediate neighbourhood? What kind of concrete deliverables TTIP could bring to our societies?
President Valdas Adamkus was the President of Lithuania from 1998 to 2003 and again from 2004 to 2009.He is a Member of ECFR's council.
Mark Leonard is the Director of ECFR.
