ECFR and the Rhodium Group are delighted to invite you to the virtual launch event of our new policy paper “Circuit Breakers: Securing the Green Energy Supply Chain”, written by Agatha Katz (Rhodium Group), Janka Oertel (ECFR) and Charlie Vest (Rhodium Group).
Are Europeans at risk of making the same geopolitical mistakes on green energy dependence on China, as they did with Russia? The development and deployment of renewable energy technologies like solar, wind and hydrogen is in full swing. Yet, throughout the green energy supply chain, there is a diverse set of often underappreciated security risks that stretch far beyond the economic to geopolitical dependencies. As the EU seeks to quickly move its energy system away from fossil fuels to renewables, it must ensure diversity of supply and competitiveness of its green technology industries. China’s growing dominance in many of these sectors pose a real risk and puts pressure on Western companies and governments to act fast.
What are the risks in green supply chains? And what principles do policymakers need to follow to ensure the EU’s energy security in an age of decarbonization?
In this online discussion, the authors will present their findings regarding the geopolitical risks of green energy supply chains and offer concrete policy recommendations and key principles on how to address them.
The debate will be on the record and held in English. If you have any questions about this event, please contact [email protected].
