The crisis in Ukraine and Russia's annexation of Crimea have been heavily covered by Russian and Western media. But what really gave rise to the EuroMaidan and what were and are Ukraine’s own priorities? Is the new government meeting people’s expectations? Is this even possible?

Andrey Kurkov is a Ukrainian novelist, author of 18 novels and most recently Ukraine Diaries (2014), a first-hand account of the EuroMaidan, Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the uprisings in the Donbas.
