A small, high-level online round-table on Europe’s role in multilateralism that ECFR is organising in cooperation with the Foreign Ministries of Finland and Spain.

Agenda

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of international cooperation but also the difficult climate for multilateralism. Against this background, we discussed whether the process of response to and recovery from the pandemic can offer the chance to renew the multilateral order. In the aftermath of the US presidential election, we also assessed what the result means for European efforts to uphold a rules-based approach to global affairs.

This workshop brought together officials from European countries and EU institutions together with experts from ECFR’s council and elsewhere to discuss the next steps in the international response to the pandemic and the broader objective of renewing multilateralism. It was being held in connection with ECFR’s continuing work on multilateralism after COVID-19.

The debate is off-the-record and by invitation only.
