Digital Challenges in the Great Powers Competition: what geopolitical role for the EU?

Technology is increasingly emerging as a source of geopolitical challenges, but also of geopolitical opportunities. The EU has a unique chance to become a trend setter on those aspects of technology like the role that ethics should play and the promotion of democracy protection in terms of platform content, AI surveillance and countering disinformation.

Only pushing beyond its limits, the EU will manage to unlock its potential in this field and become a fore front Sovereign actor and not only a mere watcher of the current global order technological reshaping.

In this framework, the Rome office of the European Council on Foreign Relations, in official Partnership with ENI, has organized a virtual event which will delve into timely issues such as European sovereignty and the ethics of technology.
