TWO-STATE STRESS TEST

EXPERT COMMITTEE

A six-person expert advisory committee of respected Israeli, Palestinian, and international academics and policy experts on the conflict was consulted in the elaboration and framing of the TSST’s findings and methodology and on all scoring of indicators and categories. However, the final text and any mistakes remain the sole responsibility of the authors.

The TSST expert committee is composed of the following members:

Yossi Alpher, internationally renowned consultant and writer, focusing extensively on Israel-related security issues. He is a former IDF intelligence officer, senior Mossad official, and director of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University. In 2000, he served as special adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, focusing on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Until recently he co-edited bitterlemons.net.

Rex Brynen, professor of political science at McGill University and a leading expert on the issue of Palestinian refugees. His forthcoming book, The Palestinian Refugee Problem: The Search for Resolution, co-edited with Roula el-Rifai, will be published in December 2013. He previously worked as a member of the Canadian MFA’s policy staff and as a consultant to the World Bank.

David Newman, professor of political geography in the Department of Politics and Government at Ben-Gurion University in Israel and chief editor of the academic journal, Geopolitics. His research and publications focus on the territorial dimensions of conflict, the contemporary role and significance of borders in a globalised world, and the interface between science and politics. He has an OBE for services to higher education and the humanities and promoting academic links between the UK and Israel.

Mouin Rabbani, senior fellow at the Institute for Palestine Studies, contributing editor to the Middle East Report, and co-editor of Jadaliyya. He is also the head of Middle East at Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) and previously worked as Palestine director of the Palestinian American Research Centre and as a senior Middle East analyst for the International Crisis Group.

Khalil Shikaki, associate professor of political science and director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research based in Ramallah. He has conducted more than 100 polls amongst Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip since 1993 and has taught at several universities, including Birzeit University, al-Najah National University, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of South Florida, while also spending a summer as a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC.

Nathalie Tocci, deputy director of the Rome-based Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), head of the institute's department, The EU and the Neighbourhood, and editor of The International Spectator. Her research has focused on European foreign policy, conflict resolution, and the European neighbourhood, with particular attention to Turkey, Cyprus, the Middle East, and the South Caucasus. Dr Tocci is the winner of the 2008 Anna Lindh award for the study of European foreign policy.
