This follows a meeting with the US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Thursday. Sarraj wants the UN to lift an arms embargo which only allows the import of weapons with the approval of the UN Secretary Council. Sarraj is the head of the UN-backed government in the capital Tripoli. While in the east of the country, military commander Khalifa Haftar runs a rival government.
