Umberto Tavolato is a visiting fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations. Previously, he was senior foreign policy expert in the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a political adviser to the Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service. Tavolato has also led EU Special Representatives’ offices in Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia and served in the EU Delegation to the African Union.
