Biography
Stavros Petropoulos is an associate senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations.
His work focuses on EU relations with Asia and the Indo-Pacific, European security and defence policy, and Europe’s evolving geopolitical identity.
Stavros is a former EU official (2003–2025) with over two decades of experience across EU institutions covering EU-Asia and Indo-Pacific affairs, security and defence issues, and crisis management. As senior expert for the Indo-Pacific at the European External Action Service, he was closely involved in the drafting of the EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy.
A lawyer by training, Stavros holds law degrees from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the University of Athens.
