Senior researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies
Luke Patey is a senior researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies. His research focuses on geoeconomics and industrial competitiveness in green and digital technologies. Previously, he was lead senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, University of Oxford.
He is the author of the books “How China Loses: The Pushback Against China’s Global Ambitions” (Oxford University Press, 2021) and “The New Kings of Crude: China, India, and the Global Struggle for Oil in Sudan and South Sudan” (Hurst, 2014). Patey’s work has been published in the Wire China, the New York Times, the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Hindu, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy.
He has been a visiting scholar at the United Nations University (Tokyo), the Social Science Research Council (New York), Peking University (Beijing), and Centre d’études et de recherches internationals (Paris). Patey holds a PhD from the Copenhagen Business School.
