Protests continue as Belarus tightens crackdown

Belarus protests continued into the 17th day, despite a number of opposition politicians and demonstrators arrested on charges of organising unsanctioned protests. President Alexander Lukashenko has rejected calls to talks from the Coordination Council, a group made up of politicians and citizens who rejected the results of this month’s election. Gustav Gressel, senior policy fellow with the European Council on Foreign Relations, explains the council’s role.
