On 12 December, the German Embassy in Washington DC and the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) will host a public discussion which will take stock of the dialogue process to date and will examine the future prospect for a swift solution to the dispute in order to contribute to the peace and stability of the wider Western Balkans region.
The Kosovo-Serbia dialogue process facilitated by the European Union, is one of Europe’s most complex and enduring diplomatic negotiations, and in the current context this process hangs in the balance. Russia’s full-scale war in Ukraine has created an entirely new political and security context for Europe and its neighbourhood, including Kosovo and Serbia, reviving fears of repeated conflict in the Balkans. Yet new opportunities may also arise from this context. The West may now feel an increased sense of urgency to push for peace and stability in the Western Balkans and anchor this region into the Euro-Atlantic community.
