As global power dynamics shift amid intensifying US-China rivalry, the rise of assertive middle powers, and increased scepticism toward the international rules-based order, Europe finds itself navigating new challenges in securing its global position. To avoid being drawn into a new Cold War dynamic, Europe must seek partnerships with emerging powers, especially those shaping the current geopolitical landscape.

Drawing on insights from a recent ECFR policy brief, Brazil: Europe’s bridge to the global south, this webinar examines how Brazil’s unique approach to foreign policy—including its strategic balance between the U.S. and China, its support for multipolarity, and its advocacy for strategic autonomy—impacts its relationship with the EU. We will address areas of friction  and explore possible avenues for cooperation on global challenges.

The event is being organized as part of ECFR’s Re:Order project. The Re:Order project is funded by Stiftung Mercator.
