Wednesday afternoon, ECFR Berlin hosted an open discussion introducing the new publication by Piotr Buras, Head of ECFR Warsaw. The first impulse came from the author himself, briefly presenting the key aspect of his analysis: since the „political era“ of Tusk is over, what direction will the Polish foreign politics take on further? The floor was afterwards granted to Dietmar Nietan, Member of the German Bundestag and Chairman of Deutsch-Polnischen Gesellschaft Bundesverband e.V. He declared to generally agree with the views expressed by the author, supplementing with input on the developments in domestic politics, but also on Poland’s role in the Eastern Partnership and the recent negotiations in the Ukraine-conflict.

The subsequent open debate was very intense and challenged event he „golden decade“ of Tusk, as well as his further influence deriving from his position as President of the European Council. Another central theme was the indispensability of Poland’s expertise in stabilizing the situation in Ukraine.
