Days before a high-stakes NATO summit, the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) hosts to a timely webinar on European public attitudes towards Europe’s defence, the first turbulent months of President Trump’s new term, and the capacity of Europe to respond to a changing transatlantic reality.
This webinar will launch our brand-new public opinion report, based on polling across 12 European countries, exploring whether Europeans are ready to step up to safeguard their own security, support Ukraine’s sovereignty and present a unified international profile. ECFR’s Mark Leonard and Ivan Krastev, authors of the report, will unpack the findings and offer bold insights into what European leaders must do next.
Joining the discussion, Jana Kobzova, senior policy fellow at ECFR’s European Security Initiative, will assess Europe’s strategy towards Ukraine and the broader architecture of European defence and security, drawing on her recent work on Europe’s plan for security in the shadow of war and geopolitical fragmentation.
How is Trump’s return shaping European mindsets? Are Europeans ready to think and act like a geopolitical force with one voice?
