Africa amid global shifts: Balancing partnerships
Chaired by
Maddalena Procopio, Senior Policy Fellow, Africa Programme, ECFR
Africa’s growing prominence in global geopolitics and geoeconomics presents a landscape of both exciting opportunities and critical challenges for the continent and its international partners. While Africa holds immense potential, such as in the energy sector, it also faces a complex web of political, economic, and social hurdles that can slow development and discourage foreign investment. The rising interest from international players in the continent brings fresh possibilities for fast-tracking progress, but also raises concerns about enhanced competition, exploitation, and potential power imbalances.
This roundtable is organised in cooperation with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and convenes a select group of policymakers, industry leaders, and experts from Africa, Europe, and the United Arab Emirates to explore how African players are leveraging enhanced multipolarity and the implications for their international partners.
