Marco de Andreis is director of economic and fiscal studies at Italy’s customs agency. He is a former European Commission official (1995-2000), serving in the private office of the then European Commissioner Emma Bonino, and a former political advisor to Italy’s Minister for European Affairs Giorgio La Malfa (2005-2006). Besides having worked in the past at several Italian foreign policy think tanks, including the Istituto Affari Internazionali (1985-1988) in Rome, he has also been a resident fellow at the Institute for East-West Studies in New York City (1983-84) and a foreign policy fellow at the School of Public Affairs of the University of Maryland (1989). He authored or edited eight books and wrote extensively for journals, magazines and newspapers on international security and disarmament, the international political economy, European affairs.
