Wie kann Europa neue Anreize schaffen um Regierungen und Bürger von europäischen Lösungen für die Reform von Politik, Wirtschaft und der europäischen Institutionen zu überzeugen?
ECFR London this morning hosted a Black Coffee Morning to discuss last weekend's elections in Turkey and mark the launch of What does Turkey Think? The publication is a collection of nine essays by Turkish experts and political figures from different backgrounds – Islamists, secularists, Kurds and liberals. The essays examine how questions of identity, democratisation and Ankara’s evolving foreign policy are seen from within the new Turkey. Our speakers were Martti Ahtissari, former president of Finland and chairman of the Independent Commission on Turkey, Hakan Altkinay, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and one of the authors of What does Turkey think? and Dimitar Bechev, ECFR senior policy fellow and editor of the collection. The discussion was chaired by ECFR's Director, Mark Leonard.
"This is a work in progress. The heart and soul of Turkey is up for grabs." Hakan Altinay
We will be publishing podcasts featuring audio from the event, and in interview with Dimitar, in the coming days.
