ECFR experts available for comment on Ashton as Europe's foreign policy chief

The appointment of Catherine Ashton as the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy comes at a time when Europe's voice in the world needs to be heard. The five years ahead represent an opportunity as well as a challenge.

ECFR experts are available to comment on what this means for Europe, and on what big tasks and challenges Ashton will face in the coming months - and ultimately, the next 5 years.

In a time where national interests increasingly dominate the political agenda of EU member states, Ashton's biggest challenge will be to co-ordinate a common European approach on the big international issues. Two issues that Europe must address under Ashton's steering are how to deal with an increasingly assertive Russia and what to do about China's rise.
